Cash Flow Management and Financial Fundamentals
A short course
Cash flow is the lifeblood of every business. It must be managed carefully in good times, and in bad times.
Many business owners get caught out because they don’t understand that profit does not always equal positive cash flow.
Even if you feel your business is on a trajectory for long-term profitability, poor management of cash flow now might result in your business’s failure as you “run out of cash”.
And this is even more important in tough times. Cash keeps flowing out to pay expenses, but it might not necessarily be flowing in. Will you have enough cash or working capital to service your current levels of debt? Or pay your staff wages? Or pay personal expenses (such as school fees)?
If you don’t know how to manage your cash flow, you might easily find yourself trading insolvent, which has serious financial and legal consequences.
